Adams was an officer and director of some 50 companies. The Equitable Life Insurance Company occupied most of his professional career. After leaving them in 1930, he employed his underwriting talents at Bancamerica-Blair where he was known for protecting bondholders of sovereign entities, such as Brazil and Yugoslavia, and corporations, such as Pan American Airways and RKO. He was also involved with reorganizations, such as the Gould Coupler Company and the Schubert Theater Corporation.
